About our school
St Hedda’s School is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Esk Valley in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, approximately eight miles from the town of Whitby. St Hedda’s is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic primary school. It is the only Roman Catholic primary school in the rural area outside Whitby, serving, in addition to Egton Bridge itself, the surrounding villages from Goathland to Castleton.
The school’s origins date back to 1798 when records show that lessons commenced in what had been the original church building. Many changes have taken place since that time and the present school building is well equipped to provide education for the twenty-first century.
The school has two classrooms, an infant class (Foundation/Key Stage 1) for four to seven year olds and a junior class (Key Stage 2) for seven to eleven year olds. We are also lucky to have an additional learning space in the newly refurbished Parish rooms. Adjoining is a small library and a “wet work area”. The areas are linked by a wide corridor used for the display of art work and additional working space for the children and staff.
There are separate cloakroom and toilet facilities for Foundation / Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children. The school is also fortunate to have its own kitchen and dining room pleasantly situated in the school grounds. School meals are cooked on the premises.
Outside there is a newly refurbished playground and an attractive sheltered playing field. To take a look at our playground click on 'Our School' on the menu to the left.
During the Autumn Term (2010) we have had two very successful inspections at St. Hedda’s. We were all very pleased with the reports and thank everyone for their support.
You can access the Ofsted Report by clicking the menu to the left. Please have a look!
We have also achieved Healthy School Status and the Dyslexia Quality Mark.
